Queen for a day
Early bird rates are now available for what is billed as 'the UK's top women's race'. And details of a prestigious medal have been announced which adds further lustre to the popular Windsor Women’s 10K, set to take place on Saturday 28 September in the regal setting of Windsor Great Park.
This autumn classic will see the appearance of Olympian Jo Pavey, a guest in 2018. The mother of two enjoyed the friendliness, camaraderie and atmosphere last year and she was quick to commit to a return trip in September.
Jo said: “Being a part of the Windsor Women’s 10K was an absolute honour. The whole day had a really positive feeling, and as we’ve recently celebrated International Women’s Day I can see no better time to sign up to be a part of this race, encourage a team of friends and family together if you can and get involved!”
The course itself is undulating and passes through beautiful countryside. Along the route you will pass the Royal Lodge which was the Queen Mother’s residence and is now home to Prince Andrew. Just after half way you pass the statue of Queen Elizabeth II, erected to mark the Golden Jubilee.
The second half of the race is mostly downhill and concludes with that most of iconic of race finishes on the Long Walk, with Windsor Castle as the back drop.
The Windsor Women’s 10K has real star appeal and the celebrities don't just turn up for selfies. Model and TV personality Nell McAndrew won the race in 2015 and Holby City star Phoebe Thomas has also claimed a podium place.
Early bird entries for the Windsor Women’s 10K will be available until 1 June – full details at the event website.
