Any Distance As Long As Its 10K!

Looking at runABC South race listings for this weekend you could be excused for thinking someone had issued a directive that all races shall be 10 kilometres! In fact, more than half of the 20 or so events shown are at the hugely popular 'double parkrun' distance.

On Saturday (27 January) there is the full English menu of 5k, 10k, 10 miles and half marathon races at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. A more straightforward choice between 5k or 10k is on offer at Richmond Park and at Warmley Forest Park, Bristol.

Also on Saturday is the Brutal Run over 10k at Long Valley, Aldershot. There are specific men's and women's only Brutal Runs that comprise two 5k laps to ensure that competitors will be able to experience the maximum possible amount of sogginess, mud, muck and elevation.

Sunday is the day for 10k road specialists to burn rubber! You can choose between races over ten thousand of the finest metres on tarmac at Swanage, Longleat, Benfleet, Harpenden and either Hyde Park or Crystal Palace in London.

If the mere thought of all that dashing around at 10k leaves you feeling breathless you could consider something completely different. On Saturday at 6pm the South West's toughest night run returns for the 6th year to South Brent village hall, Devon. The Wild Night Run is 10 miles (or 5 miles) of tough, muddy, hilly, rocky, boggy miles on Dartmoor.

So select your raciest racing shoes and lightest vest and shorts or your grippiest trail shoes and warmest tights and long sleeves and head out there and enjoy yourselves this weekend.

As always check runABC race listings for comprehensive event details and the fastest results, brought to you in association with Sports Tours International.
