The Uphill to Wells Relay is a 29 mile off road team running event from Uphill Beach to Wells Cathedral. Following the West Mendip Way across Somerset, the point to point route travels along footpaths and bridleways through the Mendip countryside, with around 90% of the course off road.
Teams of two to five runners tackle five legs ranging from approximately 5.5 to 6.5 miles, with the option to run as a traditional hand over relay or complete the whole route together. The course features around 3,259ft of climbing and passes through Loxton, Shipham, Cheddar and Priddy before the final leg into Wells. Runners are responsible for learning and navigating their route, making preparation an important part of the challenge.
Staggered starts allow teams of different speeds to progress through the course and reach Wells within a similar period. Marshals, water and first aid support are provided at key checkpoints, while the finish on the Green in front of Wells Cathedral provides a memorable conclusion to the journey across the West Mendip Way. The event also raises funds for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
