Why Not Try Rye?
Nice Work Summer Series concludes – entries available at runABC South...
Do you fancy an early autumn runaway weekend in 1066 country before we lose the warmer weather? If so, Sussex-based race management experts Nice Work has the right package with the Rye Summer Classic Series 5K on Friday 6th September and the Rye Ancient Trails 30K & 15K multi-terrain races on Sunday 8th September 2023.
The medieval citadel town of Rye in East Sussex is situated two miles from the sea at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham, and the Brede. Rye was an important strategic member of the Cinque Ports and its stunning Rye Harbour Nature Reserve provides a flat and fast venue for the Friday evening 5K (and 1K sprint Children's Race).
This is the third and final 5K race in the Rye Summer Classic Series. Previous races in July and August – held over 10K – attracted around 150 runners and the fastest times were recorded by HY AC athletes Ross Skelton (31:26) and Amy Dixon (38:24). It will be interesting to see how fast the season finale will be over half the distance.
Following a well-earned rest on Saturday – a chance to discover the timeless nooks and crannies of Rye's cobbled streets, perhaps – the Rye Ancient Trails 30K & 15K races will welcome 500 runners to the 09:30am start on Sunday morning. The full fat 30K includes more than 1,500 feet of ascent and both races start and finish at Rye Sports Centre, and follow a route that weaves through the ancient trails in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex.
Rye Ancient Trails helps to raise valuable funds for The Oliver Curd Trust, providing holiday accommodation to families affected by childhood cancer and other life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, including those experiencing grief. The charity seeks to provide memories, happiness, and periods of escape for children and families during difficult times.
