Take a Blue running journey in IYKYH Virtual 5K
Take a running tour through the birthplace of Everton FC in If You Know Your History (IYKYH) Virtual 5K, for the benefit of the local community.
On Saturday 16 May runners from across the UK and overseas took part in the virtual Run for the 96 5K; a community event to remember the 96 Liverpool FC fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough tragedy. They ran, jogged or walked 5K and donations went to the LFC Foundation, Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, Stanley Park Liverpool CIC and Everton in the Community.
Following the success of this event, organisers BTR Liverpool invite people to their If You Know Your History (IYKYH) Virtual 5K and support Everton in the Community and The People’s Place. If you are a proud Blue, celebrate 141 years of football history on Sunday 2 August.
The run/walk journey begins inside Everton Park and the 1787 Lock-Up Tower that is the centrepiece of Everton FC’s club crest since 1938. Near the tower is a marker stating that this was the site of the original Everton Toffee Shop. It continues past the Queen’s Head Hotel – the first official headquarters for the club formerly known as St Domingo FC who in 1879 became Everton FC.
A left turn and what is described as ‘the greatest view in Liverpool’ then past the 1871 St Domingo Chapel. It carries on to the next site, the Sandon Pub that was Everton FC’s second headquarters and on match days, the players were allowed to change before they walked to their new Anfield ground.
On to Anfield then turn right beyond the Kop Stand and into Stanley Park where in 1878, St Domingo FC took their first steps to footballing glory. The route passes Everton FC’s four pitches and ends at their current home at Goodison Park.
Everton in the Community have been awarded planning permission for a mental health facility or The People’s Place. This new space will provide a range of activities for people of all ages and backgrounds designed to boost their mental wellbeing.
