The Power Of Five

Run Like L in 2023...

Do you think you could complete five 10Ks in the same year? Tay Fitness are once again offering runners the chance to participate in their Run Like L challenge in 2023, with five 10K events staggered throughout the year to enjoy. The series offers stunning views, a range of terrain and regular targets to keep you motivated throughout the year. And organisers promise 'it won’t be hell but it will be L'!

So what is the deal with L, why have Tay Fitness named their series ‘Run Like L’? Well, some of you may have guessed that it is because 50 is represented by the letter ‘L’ in Roman numerals and those taking part will be signing up to run 50K!

First up in the series is the Callander 10K which is scheduled for 12 March. In this event participants will run towards Loch Venachar and enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. It is a flat return to Callander via the old railway line before a final push along the riverside to the finish.

Up next on on 23 April is the Hidden Glen 10K. Part of the Run Mhor Festival, this 10K starts at the stunning Monachyle Mhor and really isn't your average 10K - it was voted Best 10K in Scotland and Third Best in the UK in 2020!

The Thornhill 10K on 7 May has a spectacular course, with great PB potential. Run round the Frews, spot the Wallace monument, Munros to the north and then back to Thornhill.

Into June and the Mhor 84 10K takes place on the 11th of the month followed a couple of months later by the Killin 10K on 16 August. The Killin event will see runners cross the spectacular Falls of Dochart - this spectacular race was voted 3rd Best 10K in Scotland in 2020.

It's always good to hear from someone who has taken part in an event previously and Sheila King did just that last year when she added Run Like L to her running accomplishments. She said: "I am a sucker for a challenge - I see the word and hit the enter button before going back to to see what I’ve entered!

"The L of a Run is a great challenge as no two 10Ks are the same and because it is spread over a few months it is a great for keeping focused and motivated. I would highly recommend this challenge for all the above reasons and look forward to seeing you on the start line!

"I have 5 bits of advice for anyone thinking of entering:
1. Sign up - preferably with a friend but if not  I can assure you by the end of the challenge you will have made many!
2. Don’t be intimidated - 10k is doable - even with the occasional incline!!
3. Smile - they hide photographers all round the routes
4. Don’t watch your watch - watch the scenery - it is the best!
5. Enjoy and be proud of what you have achieved - these medals aren’t given - they are earned."
