Bella's Brilliant Comeback

Glasgow's Jimmy Irvine Bella 10K made its return at the weekend...

Sunday (November 13) saw the return of one of Glasgow's most popular 10K races - the Jimmy Irvine Bella 10K. Making its return after a two year absence, runners were eager to make their mark back at the Bellahouston Park course. And they were able to do so in clement weather conditions as after a somewhat wet start to November, the sunshine gods were shining down on the day!

Organised by Bellahouston Road Runners the event pays tribute to one of the club's founding members - Jimmy Irvine who sent the runners on their way on a similarly bright crisp morning back in 2019. This year close to 500 runners took part in the event which other than a new start location, followed the same route as before using the tarmac paths and the inner pavement along the park's boundary with Mosspark Boulevard.

There were some fast times recorded with the top spot claimed by Ryan Thomson of Cambuslang Harriers finishing in 30:51. He was followed by Shettleston Harrier, Christopher McGarrity in 31:51 and Gordon Robertson another Cambuslang Harrier in 33:07.

The women's race was won by Rosa Donaldson of Glasgow University in 36:59, second place went to home club runner, Rebekah Russell a Bellahouston Road Runner in 38:36 and Katie Johnson of Edinburgh Athletics Club completed the podium in 39:20.

It was by all accounts a spectacular return for the iconic Glasgow event, with social media alive with excited feedback. Kirstie Burns was one such enthusiastic participant, she commented on Facebook: "1st time at the Bella today, was made so welcome, had lovely support all the way around and what a spread you put on for us afterwards! Fantastic event, huge thanks to everyone for all your hard work and I'll be back next year!"

The praise continues with Alan Digweed: "What an amazing event. Such a cracking buzz about the park and so well organised. Almost makes up for the hills. There is just no 10K like it in Scotland. Well done and thanks to the volunteers."
