Pride and pace in Victoria Park
London Frontrunners bring the joy back with their Pride Run 10K
The 18th Pride Run 10K lifted the spirits of 565 runners in London's oldest public park on Saturday (17 September).
Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets has welcomed millions of visitors for over 170 years but rarely has there been such a colourful, inclusive gathering as this annual event promoted by London Frontrunners – Europe's first and largest LGBT+ and gay-friendly running and triathlon club.
The race was started by former GB international sprinter Corinne Humphreys (Orion Harriers) who competed in the Gold Coast Australia Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The 565th and final finisher was Oluyemisi Ibrahim Olaritran (1:48:18) representing the event charity Micro Rainbow International Foundation – working globally to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex people achieve their full potential in life and have equal access to employment, training, education, financial services, healthcare, housing, places of faith, public places and services.
At the front of the Frontrunners was Henry Hart (Belgrave Harriers, 31:39). It was a virtuoso performance from Henry as he was three minutes clear of the runners-up: M40 Andre Biere (unattached, 34:50) and the host club's Tom Watson (London Frontrunners, 34:57).
The top three female competitors were Lara Bromilow (Marshall Milton Keynes AC, 39:19), Catherine Reavey (unattached, 42:06) and Nyoka Thomas (unattached, 42:00).
The non-binary category was led by John Harvey (43:16) with nine competitors in this class. Overall, just under 40 runners broke 40 minutes; 232 were inside 50 minutes and more than 450 beat the hour.
This event is very much about the after-party at the People's Park Tavern, where the post-run deal of £15 for a drink, burger and fries proved to be the hot ticket!
