Nothing beats Berlin Marathon
Eilud Kipchoge’s stunning performance at this year’s Berlin Marathon, at which he set the fastest time ever over 26.2 miles, reiterated what we already knew about the race – it really is an event where magic happens. If you feel like you could be tempted by the 2019 BMW Berlin Marathon, then Sports Tours International have a number of packages on offer for what could well be a CV defining event.
Berlin Marathon has established a reputation as the world's fastest course with more world records set here than anywhere else. Berlin is one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors along with Tokyo, London, Boston, Chicago and New York.
Beyond its status as the holy-grail for marathon PB hunters, Berlin is a marathon rich in personality, history and intrigue. When it was first staged in 1974, just 286 athletes entered – in 2017, this figure stood at over 41,000.
The race, set to be staged in 2019 on 29 Sepember, starts and finishes at the Brandenburg Gate, rebuilt in the late 18th century as a neoclassical triumphal arch, and now one of the best known German landmarks..
It then passes a host of notable buildings, including the impressive Potsdamer Platz, the ornate Berlin Cathedral, the German parliament (the Reichstag), and the Kaiser-Willhelm Church. The course hasn’t always been so all-encompassing of the city, prior to 1990, the route was confined to West Berlin because of the division of the city.
Sports Tours International has guaranteed entry on offer for the 2019 event. Packages include three, four or five night stays at a choice of excellent hotels within Berlin city centre. Further information is available here.
