parkrun Comes To Cockermouth

There's a new parkrun underway in Cumbria...

Cumbria has a new parkrun with news that runners have now enjoyed three weekend's of parkrun fun at Cockermouth Greenway. The most recent outing saw over 100 participants, 13 PBs and a broad range of abilities. First over the finishline was Andy McQue of Keswick AC in 17:35, while the mid point runner was Jo Hubbold in 28:55.

The course follows the Cockermouth Greenway on a tarmac course, with out and back sections to complete three laps and the required 5K distance. Free parking is available at Cockermouth Rugby Club whish is around a 10 minute walk to the meeting area.

Speaking after the first event, organisers said: "Our first parkrun went ahead with 98 runners and walkers taking part. We learned a few things on the day and hope to fine tune these as we progress. Big thanks to all those who took part, to those who helped out, to those who have arranged to come another time. We felt the day as a whole went well."

Every week parkeunners can grab a post-run coffee and bacon roll at Cockermouth Rugby Club, all are welcome and it sounds like the rolls are worth hanging around for. Siobhan Gascoigne posted on Facebook: "Having been on the planning team to get Cockermouth Greenway parkrun up and running it was great to participate this morning and even better that it was my 50th different venue!

"And what better way to celebrate than with a lovely bacon buttie made by the WI in our pop up café at the Rugby Club! Who's coming next week to join us?"
