Tour of Tameside

Nearly time for Tour of Tameside

Summer is fast open us and nothing quite celebrates the sunny splendor of the north west than The Tour of Tameside. Set across four separate days commencing on Thursday 13 June, the event offers a whirlwind opportunity of racing through the region, with competitors presented with the prospect of tackling all four events (around 22 miles) or competing in individual races.

Founded by Dr. Ron Hill in 1983, the Tour of Tameside was re-introduced in 2015 and proved to be an immediate success with over 500 runners taking part. Since then, the event has reconsolidated its iconic status and has seen its field increase year on year.

The Tour kicks off on Thursday (13 June) at the X-Trail 10K in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening, at the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley.

Stage 3 will see competitors tackle the Dr. Ron Hill Hyde 7, before a final push at the ‘Hero Half Marathon’, which takes runners along the Longdendale Trail, a disused railway line which is ideal for achieving a PB time.

A group of runners preparing for the upcoming event is Daddies Escape, a Tameside based running group who are all dads who like nothing better than to slip on a pair of running shoes and pound the streets, come rain, snow or shine.

The group, who describe themselves as a “friendly Tameside Running Group”, were formed in 2016 and have been regulars at the event. Ever since launching, their ethos is to remain supportive of each other and not take themselves too seriously – the perfect mentality for the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of the Tour of Tameside.
