New Trail Route For Moray

The Moray Coastal Trail Ultra returns in May with a new race distance for 2025...

The Moray Coastal Trail Ultra is back on 10 May, offering runners the chance to experience one of Scotland’s most breathtaking coastlines. This year, a brand new race distance joins the lineup, giving more runners the opportunity to take in the stunning coastal scenery, dramatic cliffs, and historic fishing villages.

The 50-mile ultra takes runners on a full journey along the Moray Coastal Trail and is perfect for experienced trail runners, with highlights including Roseisle Forest, ancient dinosaur footprints and the striking Bow Fiddle Rock.

The ultra distance starts inland in Forres before reaching the coast at Findhorn, a village known for its unique eco-community. The route then continues through Burghead Bay’s forests, past Lossiemouth’s towering cliffs and alongside Spey Bay where runners may spot dolphins. The final stretch takes participants through the historic shipbuilding town of Buckie and along a chain of picturesque fishing villages before finishing under the Cullen Viaduct.

The 23-mile trail race, a new addition for 2025, offers a shorter but equally spectacular route. It begins in Lossiemouth and follows the same course as the ultra, taking runners past stunning landmarks such as Spey Bay Dolphin Centre, historic lighthouses and the famous Bow Fiddle Rock before finishing at the Cullen Viaduct. Organisers say: "The 23-miler offers a shorter but equally captivating experience along the coastal trail."

The Moray coastline is famous for its wide sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, and rich maritime heritage, making it an unforgettable race setting. If you'd like to know more, visit the Moray Coastal Trail Races website.
