Community Spirit And Strong Running Shine At Run Garioch
Big day for Inverurie runners...
Run Garioch returned to Inverurie on Sunday 10 May, with hundreds of runners taking part across the half marathon, 10K, 5K and junior races at one of Scotland’s best known community running festivals. Based around the Garioch Sports Centre, the popular Aberdeenshire event once again delivered a lively atmosphere and strong local support throughout the day.
The headline McWilliam Lippe Half Marathon took runners out into the rolling Garioch countryside, with views towards Bennachie and a route featuring a mix of steady climbs and fast sections back into Inverurie. The Cala 10K and Mackie’s 5K also attracted strong fields, with the closed event village and packed roadside support helping create a genuine festival atmosphere around the town.
Run Garioch continues to stand out as a key fixture in the Scottish spring calendar, balancing competitive racing with a strong community focus. The event has built a reputation for attracting runners of all abilities, from first timers in the junior and 5K races to experienced club runners targeting fast times over the longer distances.
The event village remained busy throughout race day, with local charities, sponsors and volunteers all playing a visible role in the smooth running of the event. Organisers also continued their strong community partnership approach, with several local charities benefiting from fundraising linked to the races.
Run Garioch’s long standing connection with the Garioch Sports Centre remains central to the event’s identity, helping maintain its reputation as one of Scotland’s most established and community driven running festivals. With another strong turnout and plenty of support on the streets of Inverurie, the 2026 edition once again showed why the event remains so popular year after year.
