Glen Lyon Trail Race & Ultra Marathon

Dip Your Toe In These Perthshire Trail Races

Two distances on offer at this scenic yet remote trail event in Perthshire...

Set in the breathtakingly remote Glen Lyon, the Glen Lyon Trail Race and Glen Lyon Ultra Marathon offer runners the chance to take on some of Scotland’s most stunning off-road terrain.

The Glen Lyon Trail Race offers runners a 15.5 mile loop around Loch Lyon and will take place on 8 June this year. The route is entirely off-road and, featuring six river crossings organisers stress that those taking part will get their feet wet! After a steep climb at the start, the course undulates through scenic hills before finishing back at Glen Lyon Dam.

For those looking for a bigger challenge, the Glen Lyon Ultra Marathon takes place the day before, on 7 June. Covering 31 miles, the race starts with a loop of Loch Lyon, crossing six rivers before returning to the start/finish area to collect drop bags.

Runners will then climb over into the remote Glen Lochay, completing both a high and low-level route before returning over the hill to Glen Lyon. The route is 85% off-road, with a middle section of tarmac, and runners should be prepared for rugged terrain and potential falls.

Entry includes a race memento and goody bag with an optional technical race t-shirt available for purchase. Organisers told us: "Both races promise an unforgettable challenge in one of Scotland’s most scenic and remote locations. There is also the option to camp at the dam the night before the race!"
