Cows In Action At The Clawson 10K.

Mooving Time At Clawson

A herd of cows decided to join in the fun at Sunday’s (13 May) Clawson 10K but their actions were limited to a light jog only. And they weren’t the only animal obstacle on the course.

The village of Long Clawson in Leicestershire was the setting for this scenic off-road race, accompanied by blue skies and sunshine. Open to walkers as well as runners who were treated to a superb route through bluebell woods, along footpaths and across fields. This was the English countryside at its finest.

One of the fields contained the curious bovine beauties that trotted behind or alongside the runners as they passed by, much to their amusement. There were a couple of large badger holes to navigate around as well but no injuries to report, thankfully, plus a stile or two to climb over. They continued on their way and onto the finish at Long Clawson Village Hall.

Oliver Matharu of Holme Pierrepont RC was first across the line in 40:11. Iain Bailey took second place in 40:48 with Alan Oliver of Sleaford Striders third in 41:14.

In the women’s race, Natalie Teece of Stilton Striders was the winner in 46:31 followed by Emily Foran of Sleaford Striders in 49:01. Hannah Sampson of Holme Pierrepont RC was third in 50:07.

Samuel Hatherley was the first Clawson resident to finish, coming home in a time of 49:21. James Wardle was the first U18 in 41:36 and fourth overall.

The last runner crossed the line in 2:34:18 and there were 267 finishers in total.

All proceeds go to Long Clawson Village Hall.
