Horse Around This October

This unique running event returns to the race calendar this autumn...

After several successful Man V Horse competitions since 2013 the South Loch Ness Access Group has decided to pick up and run the event again in 2024 with the date set for 13 October.

The event takes place at Loch Ness Riding near Dores from where there will be a massed start for all runners at 11am with staggered starts for horses and riders 10 minutes later. The race involves a circular route of 23K and there is also a shortened route of 12K offered.

Speaking about the event, organisers said: "Come on guys - lets have your entries in for this years event so that we have an idea of numbers for buying our rosettes and medals. There will be the big Jacobite Quaich for the fastest competitor overall which has been won, over the years, by runners as well as riders. It is always a good fun event and the course will be more or less the same as it was two years ago which was very popular."

There will also be keepsake trophies for the fastest horse and the fastest runner and another special award for the fastest Woman V Horse. All competitors will receive either medals (for the runners) or rosettes for the riders.

At the finish there will an array of sandwiches and cakes that are donated for competitors and helpers alike to tuck into. Donations to the charities are appreciated. Organisers add: "This is a chance for runners and riders to get to know each other and find out about each other’s sports. A percentage of all profits will be donated to the South Loch Ness Access Group this year as our chosen charity and there will also hopefully be a raffle on the day."
