Turkey Trot Returns
A well-organised and scenic festive half will return to Notts this December...
A fantastic festive offering for runners in the Nottinghamshire area, the Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon is an established and popular part of the December running calendar. The race is organised by the 1st Keyworth Scout Group Executive Committee and all funds raised will go towards supporting their activities and local charities selected by the Group. The quality of the course itself, and its organisation, means many runners return year after year.
The half marathon's course is a single circuit, all on road, starting and finishing in Keyworth Village and passing through the undulating rural scenery and villages of the South Nottinghamshire Wolds. The course is considered to be both challenging and rewarding, and being a little hilly, is well suited to being run in December.
Organisers told us: "Traditionally, prizes of turkeys have been awarded to the individual winners of the various categories, however, with increasingly diverse dietary requirements, we have chosen to replace them with food vouchers, which can be used to purchase a turkey or alternative tasty treat."
£50 cash prizes are awarded for establishing a new male or female overall course record If you want to know what you are up against, the mens’ course record, set in 2008 is 67:39, and is held by Tim Hartley. The ladies’ record, held by Nicola Clay of Stilton Striders is 77:58.
At the finish, runners can enjoy a well earned complementary hot soup, tea or coffee or a cold beverage. Runners’ supporters can relax indoors and enjoy some entertainment while they await the return of the runners.
