This Race Is A Real Cracker!
Kick off your Christmas with a Staffordshire cracker...
Staffs Moorlands AC will once again host the ever-popular Christmas Cracker Race and Junior Fun Run. This year, the date is set for 22 December with runners invited to enjoy the scenic course that takes in the beautiful Staffordshore Moorlands.
The main race is approximately 8 miles long with around 40% run on country lanes and the rest through fields and on tracks. There is also a section along the exposed Roaches gritstone ridge which is some 1500 feet above sea level! For the younger participants, the junior fun run is approximately 2 miles run around the trails of Tittesworth Water.
Organisers say: "Whilst this is a race, which does attract some excellent runners, the emphasis is on fun and fancy dress outfits are encouraged, even if this is a Santa hat, tinsel halo or sprig of mistletoe!" A previous participant enthused: “This was the most fun race I have had all year."
There are prizes for various categories including fancy dress and every finisher receives either a pair of special edition socks or locally bottled beer.
Any profits from the race are shared between the local charities and organisations that help to stage the event (Staffordshire Wildlife Trust for maintaining the footpaths on the Roaches, and Buxton Mountain Rescue for helping to keep runners safe on the course).
