Just over three weeks till this half marathon welcomes runners to the stunning north-west coast...
How far are you willing to travel for a race? If stunning scenery and a challenging course are top of your check list then a visit to the north-west of Scotland for the Coigach Half Marathon may be in order. Taking place on 8 October, the race starts in the village of Achiltibue, by Ullapool and is considered, by many, as one of the most beautiful half marathons in the UK.
With views out over the Summer Isles, The route takes runners on a fantastic rollercoaster ride round the beautiful Coigach Peninsula. It is a looped course that hugs the coastline before heading inland and back towards the start, following a hilly, but stunningly scenic course.
Not only will there be fabulous views and friendly folk, but a delicious tea afterwards in aid of Macmillan - and perhaps some entertainment too. With organisers commenting: "We may be able to offer a Ceilidh this year and/or some other evening entertainment; watch this space!"
Kenny Taylor took second place in the 2017 staging with a time of 1:25:39. He has said of the race: "All in this was another top race and a definite contender for the most scenic route I’ve run. It would definitely be on the list for an annual visit.
"I absolutely loved everything about the route and it must rank as one of Scotland’s most friendly races. The final ace in the pack was a great post-race buffet in the Community Hall. A top event, this run was small, friendly, scenic and challenging in just the right measures."
The race is held to raise funds for the upkeep of the local playing field, so runners can enjoy a spectacular athletic experience while helping a local community and its school. There is still time to enter, or indeed you can enter or on the day!
