Glenrothes Road Running Festival

Go For Gold In Glenrothes

Family-friendly festival of running back in Fife next summer...

Fife runners can look forward to a summertime festival of running at the Glenrothes Road Running Festival on 22 June. Organised by the Fife Olympiad SCIO Committee in conjunction with the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, the event is to be held at the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre. This popular and family-focussed event offers something for runners of all experience levels.

The Festival, which started life in 1983 as a half marathon, is one of Scotland’s longest running road-racing festivals. Over the years it has diversified and grown and now offers a 10K race along with a 4K road race, a 2K fun run/walk/jog and a 200m junior jog for the under 5s on the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre running track.

The event now attracts hundreds runners of all abilities from across the UK each year. Organisers say: "The Glenrothes Road Running Festival is a brilliant set of events to suit all ages and abilities, and just gets more popular each year. It's aimed at encouraging people of all ages to take part in physical exercise and to reap the health benefits of doing so.

"In addition to the chance to run in one of the events, spectating or volunteering is a good way to spend a family morning out, enjoying the atmosphere and cheering on the runners. It's really good to be at the finish line, handing out the medals and seeing the big effort that the runners have put in."
