Fab Four In Cheshire
Winter half is a runner favourite that continues to grow in popularity year after year...
Cheshire's Four Villages Half Marathon will return on 18 January next year, marking the 42nd running of this Helsby Running Club event. Recognised as one of the few half marathons in the UK organised entirely by a community running club, the race has become a firm fixture in the winter calendar for runners across the North West.
The scenic 13.1-mile route winds through the Cheshire countryside, passing through the villages of Dunham on the Hill, Mouldsworth, Manley, Alvanley and Helsby, with around 170 metres of climb along the way. It’s a route that offers both challenge and beauty, making it a popular choice for runners preparing for the London and Manchester Marathons in spring.
The race has built a reputation not only for its organisation and atmosphere but also for its charitable focus. Last year’s event raised more than £13,000 for local charities and community groups, including Halton Haven Hospice and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
In recognition of its quality and impact, the Four Villages Half Marathon was awarded first place in the Half Marathons North category of the Challenge Awards. Runners continue to praise the warm welcome, friendly marshals and the now-famous race T-shirts, which feature designs created by local primary school children.
With a limit of 1,700 entries, the race is expected to sell out once again, as it did last year. Organisers are encouraging runners to sign up early to secure a place in what has become a highlight of the winter running season.
