Hot Success In Chester
It was a scorching success at the 2025 Essar Chester Half Marathon...
The 2025 Essar Chester Half Marathon saw more than 5,700 runners take to the streets of the historic city on Sunday (18 May), completing the popular 13.1-mile race in hot and sunny conditions. One of the UK’s best-loved half marathons, the race started and finished in the heart of Chester, providing a stunning backdrop of Roman and medieval architecture for participants and supporters alike.
Despite the rising temperatures and a slightly delayed start, the event was a resounding success, with runners of all levels turning out in force to embrace the challenge. The atmosphere around the course and in the city centre was electric, with spectators cheering loudly and offering welcome refreshments, including hosepipe sprays from locals eager to help cool down the field.
At the front end, Corrin Leeming took the men’s title with a time of 1:07:21, followed by Marshall Smith in 1:08:19 and Cameron Hannan in 1:09:47. In the women’s race, Melissa Gibson ran a superb 1:15:50 to take the win, ahead of Tessa McCormick in 1:18:08 and Carolyn Hay in 1:22:35.
Participants and spectators alike praised the organisation and support on the day. Runner Katie Rose said: “A fantastic event and a huge thank you to all of the support around the course. Those people spraying with the hosepipes - you were an absolute godsend.” Spectator Carol Parsons shared a similar sentiment: “Fantastic event and well organised - I didn’t race but equally enjoyed spectating and cheering so many of the runners. Everyone did so well in the warm conditions.”
Organisers thanked all participants for their efforts and the city for embracing the event, which continues to be a major highlight in the running calendar. Entries are now open for the 2026 edition, taking place on Sunday 17 May.
