Do It For Dementia Challenge keeps the show on the road
The team at Alzheimer Scotland were set for a busy May. Edinburgh Marathon Festival is one of their biggest fundraising events of the year and they were set to field a big group of runners across all of the EMF distances.
The Alzheimer Scotland contingent in their bright purple vests are one of the most visible charities at the classic Edinburgh spring event. The coronavirus situation means that their training, and enthusiasm, is on hold until later in the year.
However to keep #TeamAlzScot focussed and to provide an opportunity for all of us in lockdown, the charity has launched the Do It For Dementia Challenge.
This is a personal challenge so Alzheimer Scotland is encouraging you to do it your way! Whether it's up and down the stairs or round the garden, short sprints or mighty miles, running or riding, however you clock up the distance every step will help the charity.
Alzheimer Scotland's 24 hour Freephone Dementia Helpline is working tirelessly to provide the people of Scotland with vital information on how to cope during coronavirus and beyond as well as offering emotional support while it is most needed. They are committed to keeping their support going but need your help. Every single penny will make a positive difference.
Registration is free for the Do It For Dementia Challenge but the charity is asking that you raise as much as you are able to or make a donation, if you are in a position to do so.
From a full marathon to a daily step challenge, can you push yourself for the 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland. Can you do it for dementia?
Once your fundraising page is up and running Alzheimer Scotland will send you an iconic running vest so you can be proud in purple. Once your challenge is complete you'll receive a medal to celebrate all your hard work.

Image shows #TeamAlzScot's Jenny Gray, from Jersey, who was due to tackle the London Landmark Half Marathon in March to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland in memory of her father-in-law Jim. When the event was postponed Jenny made the decision to complete her own version of the half marathon and ran from coast to coast in Jersey, complying with social distancing, and completed the 13.1 mile challenge. So far Jenny has raised over £1,300 and her employer will match whatever the final amount is.
