Urban Trail Celebrates Decade

This urban trail race provides midweek motivation for runners in Cumbria...

Celebrate 10 years of the Carlisle City Urban Trail Run this May and hop into spring at the popular midweek evening run. The event is scheduled for 8 May and will once again see runners enjoy the sights of the Cumbrian cathedral city.

The 10K race is held on a Wednesday with a 7.15pm start time and despite its midweek timing, it is always an extremely popular event. Organisers say: "The route will take runners along the outskirts of the city and follow the River Eden, with a delightful mix of nature trails and urban running. Come along to stay motivated midweek."

Starting at Carlisle Cathedral, runners will take in the beautiful sights of the City, passing Tullie House, over the Millennium Bridge, around Carlisle Castle, through Bitts Park, over and along the River Eden and Rickerby Park. The run finishes behind The Sands Centre with a scenic view of the river banks and park behind.

Those taking part can look forward to a bespoke finishers medal, chip-timed results as well as age and category prizes. In 2023 there were over 200 runners and it was a double victory for local club, Border Harriers, with David Holmes taking first place in 34:46 while first female was club mate Fiona Todd in 40:39.

A 2023 participant commented on the event: "Lovely route by the river, well signposted/ marshalled, adequate hydration stations and lovely medal!"
