Brighton Half Marathon 2021

Dame Kelly Holmes will start ... and finish!

Excitement builds as Brighton Half Marathon date approaches

With just over two weeks to go there is a palpable feeling of excitement on the Sussex coast with the 32nd Brighton Half Marathon, organised by The Sussex Beacon, due to take place on Sunday 27 February.

Celebrity starter this year is Dame Kelly Holmes MBE, who has won medals at Commonwealth, European, World, and Olympic level culminating in two gold medals at the Athens Olympics in 2004 for the 800m and 1500m.

Dame Kelly will signal the start and then join in for the spectacular 13.1-mile tour of many of Brighton’s most iconic sites including Palace Pier, The Grand Brighton, Royal Pavilion, West Pier, Brighton Marina, and the colourful Hove Beach Huts.

Dame Kelly is delighted to be playing a key role, as she says: “I am really looking forward to starting the Brighton Half Marathon this year. Seeing mass participation events back to their best is fantastic! It has motivated me to get back training and run it too. So my plan is to start the race off, jump down and get involved. I will not be racing – just enjoying the atmosphere."

Brighton Half Marathon will start at 9:00am on Madeira Drive with thousands of runners – from beginners to seasoned half marathoners – taking to the streets of Brighton & Hove.

The race is organised by Brighton-based charity The Sussex Beacon which provides specialist support and care for hundreds of people living with HIV in Sussex and is the charity’s largest annual event. Other charity partners include the local Chestnut Tree House children's hospice and national charities like Macmillan and Alzheimer’s Society.

Brighton Half Marathon has secured the support of a range of high-profile sponsors and partners including HIGH5, Runners Need, BBC Sussex, Donatello, RunBrighton, Frosts, JustGiving, Bird & Blend, KIND, Sea Lanes, and Brighton & Hove City Council.

After last year’s enforced changes to the date and format due to Covid-19, the race team is delighted the event is returning to its usual place at the start of the running calendar with an unrestricted race field this year.

Race entries have closed but will open soon for next year's race on Sunday 26 February, 2023. However, you can still register to join the army of volunteers at the event website here
