ATW Bedford 10 race prep

Elbayan Oozes Class Beside The Ouse

Big Bedford welcome for runners in traditional ten miler

The ATW Bedford 10 enjoyed a good turnout and some milder weather in Russell Park on Sunday (29 January) with the inflatable mascot above the start welcoming 339 runners back after a traffic-free tour of Bedford's beautiful parkland and River Ouse Embankment.

Active Training World (ATW) promotes more than 75 events in 15 counties from Bedfordshire to Suffolk that involve running, cycling, swimming, or any combination of the above.

ATW Bedford 10 is a traditional 10-mile road race held on a single-lap course that starts and finishes on Bedford Embankment and runs alongside the flat, tree-lined River Ouse. The route continues to Grange Estate before heading back to Priory Park with a circuit of Priory Lake before the spectacular finish on the embankment beside the River Ouse.

Oozing class at the front of the pack was Dunstable Lions' Mohammed Elbayan (53:45) who enjoyed an untroubled run to win the men's race from Henry Bambrick (Bedford & County AC, 57:19) and Steven Baldwin (Biggleswade AC, 57:51).

Katie Harbon (North Herts Road Runners, 1:00:28) was the 15th athlete overall and the final finisher to see 60 minutes on the clock as she swept up the women's prize ahead of W40 Jen Baird (Trent Park RC, 1:04:14) and Rosanna Andrews (Rugby & Northampton AC, 1:04:15).

The comprehensive results included an age-graded category and the highest score (81.91%) was achieved by fourth-placed M45 David Haylett (unattached, 58:20) – an avid parkrun tourist with 356 parkruns on the clock, including a steady 20:28 warm-up at Cassiobury the day before his 10-mile debut at Bedford.

Results are available via runABC South race listing here.
