Ladies Day At Windsor
Females to the fore in All Nations races at Dorney Lake
Lightning struck twice at The Fix Events at Dorney Lake, Windsor on Saturday morning (8 May) as both the All Nations Half Marathon and the All Nations 10K were won outright by superb female athletes.
Held on the dawn of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and within a direct 5K run from Windsor Castle, the races were held with a Supersprint Triathlon with an Oxford -v- Cambridge Varsity challenge.
The running races were held on perfectly flat, fast courses alongside the inspirational waters at the stunning London Olympic 2012 Rowing venue of Dorney Lake. Competitors in all events were encouraged to wear their national colours and there was an understandable abundance of the red, white and blue of the Union Flag given the huge occasion that was due to take place in Westminster Abbey later in the day.
The most dominant display was in the All Nations 10K, won by 2:30:42 marathon runner and former World Championships and European Championships Marathon representative Tracy Barlow (W35, Thames Valley Harriers) in a blistering 35:23.
The top three men were M55 Adrian Thrush (Swindon Harriers, 39:18), Alexander Bater (39:35) and Tim Anticevitch (40:51). The women's rostrum was completed by Eloise Lawler (44:16) and Marina Barlow-Oakes (51:08).
The All Nations Half Marathon was a much closer race and in the end, just 17 seconds separated the overall race winner Rachel Dench (1:27:28) from the male winner Robert Williams (M50, 1:27:45).
The men's race runners-up were Francesco Verga (1:30:19) and Rich Burn (1:35:57) while the next women to finish were fifth-placed Suzanne Hadwen (W40, 1:36:03) and W40 Joanne Rodda (1:39:11).
There was a male winner of the supporting 5K race – Anthony Ashton in 18:16 – where junior Imogen Bater (26:07) was the leading lady.
