Taunton’s Revival Gathers Pace For 2027
Taunton prepares for the next chapter of its revival...
This relates to: Taunton Half Marathon & Kids Kilometre
The Taunton Half Marathon will return on Sunday 28 February 2027, building on the success of a memorable comeback that restored one of Somerset’s best-known road races to the calendar. After a four-year absence, the event returned under new management in March 2026 for its 40th edition, attracting more than 2,000 entries and producing 1,780 Half Marathon finishers.
Active South West will now stage the 41st running from Taunton town centre, with the Half Marathon beginning at 10.00am. Race headquarters, the start and the finish will once again be concentrated around North Street, where runners complete their final metres with the historic Market House providing a distinctive backdrop. The traffic-free town centre setting also gives spectators an accessible place to gather before welcoming competitors home.
The race carries almost four decades of local history. Generations of Somerset runners have used the Taunton Half Marathon to tackle 13.1 miles for the first time, pursue personal bests or test themselves against strong club competition. Its successful revival preserved that heritage while introducing a fresh approach shaped by three experienced local race directors and their emphasis on community, atmosphere and professional delivery.
Younger runners will again have their own opportunity to share the occasion through the Kids Kilometre Fun Run, which starts at 10.15am using the same start and finish area as the main race. Every finisher across both events receives a medal, allowing children to experience the excitement of a town centre race while friends and family support them from North Street.
The 2027 Half Marathon has a four-hour cut-off and is open to runners aged 17 and over. Awards will recognise the leading male and female runners across open and veteran categories, while the town centre layout should once more bring runners, volunteers, supporters and local businesses together for a lively morning in the heart of Taunton.
For runners who welcomed the race back in 2026, the next edition offers another chance to be part of its renewed story. Those discovering it for the first time can expect an established Somerset Half Marathon with deep local roots, a theatrical town centre finish and fresh momentum after a comeback that demonstrated just how much the event had been missed.
