Seagrave Wolds Challenge

Seagrave Celebrates 20 Years

Anniversary route added to Seagrave Wolds Challenge's usual proceedings...

To mark the 20th anniversary of Leicestershire's Seagrave Wolds Challenge the event will include a special 20 mile option for runners on Saturday 9 November. Organisers say: "The usual 16-mile route will have a 20-mile option incorporated, this extension is 5.5 miles into the route."

The event is a cross-country run (or walk) over varied terrain through the beautiful Leicestershire Wolds countryside using footpaths and sections of private land. This year the route will head north encompassing: Wymeswold, Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, Rempstone, Hoton Hills, Prestwold, Burton-on-the-Wolds and Walton-on-the-Wolds. Organisers suggest: "This is more of a personal challenge against the terrain, weather conditions and distance rather than a race."

The Challenge was devised in 2005 to encourage exploration of the rolling countryside around Seagrave, and to raise money to help towards the refurbishment and upkeep of Seagrave Memorial Hall and to support other good causes. Inspiration came from Chris Thompson, a resident of Seagrave and a keen eventer who took part in similar walking/running/cycling events such as the Belvoir challenge, Viking challenge, Waltham Winder, and Sherrard Stride.

The event and route are planned, manned and marshalled by the people of Seagrave village. There are water and food stops along the route and toilets in certain locations. Runners will be rewarded at the finish with soup and a roll as well as apple crumble and custard!
