Run Through Wigan's Greenheart
Tackle a trail race through one of the north west's most impressive green spaces...
Entries are now open for the 2026 Wigan Trail 10K, with runners once again set to take on an off road challenge through one of the town’s most impressive green spaces on 10 May.
Starting and finishing at Springview Sports and Community Club in Wigan, the race is staged in the heart of Amberswood Nature Reserve. Once a former mining area, the 160 hectare site has been transformed into a thriving landscape of woodland, grassland and open trails, now known locally as part of Wigan’s Greenheart.
The fully off road course follows a mix of bridle paths and woodland trails, combining grass sections with wider gravel paths. Despite the natural terrain, the route is largely flat and open, giving runners the chance to push the pace while enjoying the surroundings. Friendly marshals will be positioned around the course to guide and support competitors throughout the race.
Every entrant will receive a unique finisher’s medal, free professional race photo downloads and a post race serving of pie and peas, a local favourite that has become a hallmark of the event! A bar and social gathering after the race adds to the relaxed feel once the running is done.
The Wigan Trail 10K regularly sells out each year and there will be no waiting list, so runners keen to secure a place are being urged to enter early.
