A Race Of Two Halves
This unique 10K event takes place in just 10 days... but there's still time to enter…
The words 'it's a game of two halves' may be more often associated with football, but they are also apt for one of race organiser, Run Able's upcoming events. If you're not intrigued, you should be.
Taking place on 29 January at Sowerby Bridge near Halifax, the Half & Half 10K is 'a race of two halves'. The first 5K takes place over fast roads giving entrants plenty of opportunity to stride out and pick up the pace. But there is a sting in the tail of this race... the second 5K sees runners take on soggy wet trails. Organisers warn: "This section will be energy sapping on your legs so make sure you have conserved some power on the first 5K."
We may be referring to 'first' and 'second' legs, but essentially, it is up to you which 'half' you want to complete first. Road then trail or trail then road, that said, it is worth knowing that organisers do state: "We strongly suggest you run the road first, trail last!" We wonder why?
In 2022 there were some fast times despite the 'unique' take on the classic distance. Chris Norman was first male home in 39:39 while Julia Bowman was first female in 54:40.
With just 10 days to go till race day, there are still some spots available with late entry ending on 25 January. If you'd like to know more visit the Run Able website.
