Run Gatwick 10K lift off

1,400 Took Flight At Gatwick

Gatwick stars in the Run Series promoted Run Gatwick 10K...

The undisputed star of the Run Gatwick 10K on Sunday 12 May 2024 was ... Gatwick!

This aviation-themed, closed-road 10K road race is unique as it's based at Gatwick Aviation Museum, has a fabulous aeroplane finishers medal (pictured below), and special permission from Gatwick Airport to run safely on the inner perimeter road, alongside the live runway, with huge planes taking off and landing right beside you!

The halfway point is at the end of the runway on the restricted area airport perimeter road, an exhilarating spot to gather oneself for the second half on this fast, flat, PB-friendly course.

Entries start from £27 for early birds. The fee includes chip timing; high-quality medals; free race photos; pace runners; an event village with music, food and drink; an organised mass warm-up, and that unforgettable Gatwick experience. All entries were pre-sold this year so potential competitors are advised to register their interest here for next year's race.

In warm and sunny conditions there were 1,392 finishers inside two hours; 643 inside an hour and 227 under 50 minutes. Creating the wake vortices at the front were the flying M40 Paul Prothero (South London Harriers, 35:00), Harry Standing (unattached, 35:26) and Yassin Raman (unattached, 35:28).

The women's race was led by Chui Ling Goh (unattached, 37:50), W35 Laura Vowles (unattached, 39:18) and W35 Becky Morrish (Paddock Wood AC, 39:20) – one of 33 runners who were operating at better than 4:00/kilometre pace.

Run Gatwick 10K was promoted by Run Series, the team behind the original Run Reigate Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Kids Races on 22 September 2024.
