Running For Ron

Take on this summer's Ron Hill Accrington 10K and remember a running legend...

Accrington's Ron Hill will be remembered later this summer as a new 10K is staged to honour the sporting icon who sadly passed away last year. The Ron Hill Accrington 10K is scheduled for 14 August and will serve as an homage to the legendary runner and pioneer who was born in the town.

The race will start and finish beside two of Accrington’s historical landmarks, the beautiful Grade II listed Accrington Town Hall and Market Hall and in a fitting tribute, the route will pass both May Hill Close, dedicated to Ron’s wife, and Ron Hill Way.

Ron's life was spent at the heart of the UK running community, from Olympic performances to his more recent 'running streak' where he ran every day for 52 years and 39 days - the Lancashire runner has been an inspiration to many over the years!

Ron was also an ambassador to The Running Bee Foundation, and he believed in everyone realising their potential as a runner and as a person. His impact on the running fraternity is unparalleled and he mentored and influenced generations of runners throughout his illustrious career.

Follow in his footsteps and sign up to the Ron Hill Accrington 10K in the knowledge that just by taking part, you are contributing to local health and wellbeing causes via The Running Bee Foundation Grants in the area. To encourage people to pursue a more active, healthier lifestyle, all participants will get a free MyFirst Mile place to give to a family member or friend!
