Runners at the Leicestershire Chase the Sun event

Leicestershire Chase the Sun ready to hit the ground running

Two weeks to go to this midweek dash on a summer’s evening.

Instead of being on Zoom at home why not zoom around a flat and fast course at Prestwold Hall on a Thursday evening in mid-August? The event to do this is Leicestershire Chase the Sun 5K, 10K, 10 Mile and Move Mile on 19 August and cross the finish line before the light goes.

Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire is the venue for this event from organisers RunThrough. The home of Wymeswold Airfield – a former RAF station with a runway more than 2,000 yards in length making it one of the longest in the area, is now used for motor racing and sports including cycling and running.

The course is marked every kilometre and the smooth surface and lack of elevation are perfect for a PB and volunteers are on hand to give everyone a big hand as they complete their chosen distance. This event is chip timed.

It all begins at 6.30pm with the 10 Mile and Move Mile followed by the 5K and 10K at 7pm. The Move Mile is open to all: children can run on their own or with an adult and parents can run with a buggy or pushchair. Wheelchair users are equally welcome.

All finishers get a themed medal, water, flapjack and fruit plus free race photos.

There is talk of another heatwave around mid to late August with dry, hot conditions across the UK. If this turns out to be true, there could be a battle with the weather as well as trying to finish before the sun goes down.

There is still time to be part of the action. Enter via the Chase the Sun Series website.
