Mix it up at new Fife trail event

Fife is to play host to a new mixed terrain event later this year with races over half marathon and 10k .

‘Fife’s Mixed Terrain Half Marathon & 10K’ will be held on Sunday, 15 November 2020. Both races will start and finish on the running pitch behind Lochgelly High School.

The 10k, open to runners over the age of 12, is a ‘fantastic mixed terrain route’ that takes in grass, gravel, sand and a little bit of tarmac. The course is ‘very undulating’ at the start, but levels off around a mile and a half in, affording runners brilliant views of Lochore Meadows, the old mine shaft and Lochgelly.

The half marathon, only the second to be held in Fife and the only local mixed terrain event at the 13.1 mile distance, is made up of the full 10k route with a few ‘added extras’. It will be open to all runners over the age of 16.

As befits a ‘mixed terrain’ event, the half marathon route will include some grass and tarmac as well as muddy off-road climbs and descents. The reward for the latter will be stunning views of both Loch Ore and Loch Leven from Benarty Hill.

Entries to both races open this Saturday, 15 February, with early bird pricing in effect until Saturday, 29 February. In addition to paying a reduced rate, early bird entrants will also have their names printed on their ‘funky’ race numbers.

Both events will be chip-timed and all runners will receive a goody bag – including a choice of T-shirt or vest – a bespoke medal, water, fruit and chocolate.
