The Round the Island Race is a coastal trail half marathon circling Mersea Island in Essex. Returning to the local running calendar after a break, the event follows a single loop around the island and supports Mersea Island Lions through a proportion of each entry fee.
Runners follow a fully signed and supported trail route around the island's coastal path, providing an unusual half marathon setting surrounded by the Essex coastline. Regular aid stations are positioned around the course with sweet and savoury food and drinks, and a four hour cut off gives runners plenty of time to complete the 13.1 mile circuit.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. It operates as a cupless race, so runners need to carry their own reusable cup for drinks at the aid stations. An optional bespoke event medal is available, while the race's charitable partnership helps Mersea Island Lions continue its work supporting the local community.
