Be Running Up That Hill

Cairn Table Hill Race makes its return this July...

If hearing Kate Bush back in the charts has inspired you to 'run up a hill!' then make 13 July the night you do it as that is when Ayrshire's Cairn Table Hill Race makes its return - and with a billing that cites Cairn Table as 'one of Ayrshire's finest hills' - how can you resist?

The race is part of the Bog & Burn series, which consists of 12 Wednesday night hill races across Central Scotland during the spring/summer months. Cairn Table is event number 11 this year, so at the tail end of the 2022 series.

Cairn Table is located in Muirkirk, East Ayrshire and registration takes place at the Walkers Car Park prior to the start of the race. The event itself is a challenging 7.2K race up Cairn Hill with 360m of climbing on an out-and-back course.

If you’re already a fan of hill runs, fancy a different type of running challenge or just want to mix up your training to improve your strength then give it a go! The race is chip timed and has a time trial format with runners allowed to start from 6.30pm until 8pm.

While the race is open to all-comers, race organisers are keen to stress that: "This is a hill race, with all that entails. It is not a trail or cross country race. The route is not marked and there is no support out on the course.

"You should be happy running in the hills and over rough and unmarked terrain and be prepared to be self reliant."
