Looe 10 Miler start

All change for Looe 10 Miler Weekender

It's all change for the Looe 10 Miler next year. New for 2019 is a Saturday race date on 23 February and the entry limit has been raised from 500 to 750 to meet increased demand. However, all the traditional elements that have made this Cornish fishing village race so popular have been retained.

Launched as the new Looe 10 Miler Weekender, the race now starts at 1:30pm on Saturday afternoon instead of its usual Sunday morning slot. There will be a 2K Kids Fun Run late on Saturday morning, immediately prior to the main event (great for a warm-up).

Participants are invited to spend the weekend in Looe for as little as £45, thanks to a brilliant deal with Tencreek Holiday Park – based on four sharing a Tencreek 6-berth mobile home. The price includes race entry, two nights accommodation plus a disco and band on Saturday night!

The race is part of the Cornish Grand Prix and the course is 'challenging' to say the least. Described as 'hillish and hellish' on Looe Pioneers website, there are three climbs of at least 120m elevation gain and a steep descent to the finish at Millpool Centre right on the seafront.

This will be the seventh year of this race and this year's winners were Looe Pioneers' star man Oliver Thorogood (62:41) and Heidi Tregenza (Cornwall AC, 68:12). Despite the tough course 150 runners were inside 90 minutes and 496 finished in 2:33:53.

The main idea behind the changes is to make the race more accessible for visitors, with an attractive weekend package and plenty to see and do in the area. So go for the hills; go for the sights; go for the music or just go for the food (sponsors include Gibsons Cornish Ice Cream)!
