Longhorn Charges Back!
There are plenty of distance options at this scenic Nottinghamshire event...
The Longhorn charges back into town on Sunday 28 April with participants able to choose from 5K, 10K, half marathon, 30K, marathon, 50K or 60K Ultra distances - talk about spoilt for choice! The races are set in private areas of Sherwood Forest and the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park; next to Grade 1 listed - Thoresby Hall.
Always a well organised and marshalled affair from SBR Events, The Longhorn has acquired a loyal following over the years with people returning time and time again. The attractive and challenging course on a mixture of terrain, aid stations, friendly, enthusiastic marshals and free post-race massages are just some of the reasons to enter.
The action takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Thoresby Park and Sherwood Forest, a National Nature Reserve where the estate’s Longhorn cattle like to roam. Runners, walkers and their families and friends can roam around the Race Village with its food and drink stalls and soak up the atmosphere along with the views.
Organisers say: You will run over old military roads, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside and forest.
"Nothing looks more beautiful than the sunlight streaming through the leaves in this natural area of beauty. We have devised a race that takes you into Nottinghamshire's National Nature Reserve, through private areas that were once part of the 10,000 acres Royal Forest of Sherwood where the woodland is dominated by native Oaks as well as other native trees including Silver Birch, Rowan, Holly and Hawthorn.
"The reserve is also the site of Europe's oldest oak tree woodland, containing over 1000 oaks most of which are over 500 years old! It is here that the Longhorn Cattle of Thoresby Estate now roam freely, although being a very docile breed of cattle, they will be tucked away during our race!"
