Stunning return of the London Landmarks Half Marathon as 17,162 finish
The London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM) set new benchmarks on Sunday (2 April 2023) as well over 17,000 runners had raised a staggering £8,846,471 for charities close to their hearts before the race had even started! This was the biggest ever LLHM for both the number of runners and also the amount of money raised.
It's a race where you don't just run past the most famous London landmarks. Many runners come dressed as their favourite sight on the closed road route through the City of London and Westminster that allows participants to view the capital's most iconic buildings including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, and the Tower of London.
The annual event is organised by baby charity Tommy’s to benefit both themselves and more than 450 other causes. Event Director for the London Landmarks Half Marathon, Lia Fyles, said: "Today has been incredibly special – it’s our biggest ever London Landmarks Half! Congratulations to everyone and thank you for helping Tommy's, and our charity partners, raise so much money which will help many people in the future."
Runners rubbed shoulders with several famous faces running to raise awareness for the charities they passionately support, including Dermot O’Leary, Pixie Geldof, and Mark Wright running their first LLHM, alongside the race regulars Jenni Falconer and AJ Pritchard.
Dermot O'Leary, TV & Radio presenter, running for Coppafeel breast cancer said: "Well done to everyone for running, and to everyone at Tommy’s for organising a terrific half. The atmosphere and support all the way around was incredible, just unbelievable!"
This year’s LLHM runners included several Guinness World Record attempts and the world record for the fastest half marathon dressed as a Star was successfully claimed by Keith Williams (pictured). Running his fifth LLHM on behalf of Tommy’s, Keith smashed the record by almost half an hour, completing the course in just 1:32:38.
Up at the front, the speediest athletes were David Smale (1:08:03) and Ben Leaman (1:08:06). The women's race was also close as Alice Neil (1:21:33) took the win from Aoife Cleary (1:21:57). There were 17,162 finishers in 4:19:53.
The LLHM 2024 will take place on Sunday 7th April 2024. To pre-register click here.
