It's horses for courses at Kempton Park
Kempton Park Running Festival is under starter's orders
Runners are champing at the bit with anticipation for the Kempton Park Running Festival, a five-race event organised by Quicksilver Running and RUNFEST EVENTS within the flat grounds of Kempton Park Racecourse, Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey on 28-29 May 2022.
Saturday 28th May sees the weekend get under starters orders with the 10K, Half Marathon, and Family Mile while Sunday morning is set aside for the full Marathon or a flat out 5K blast.
Athletes will jockey for position on the start line in front of the grandstand at this famous old equestrian venue, constructed by Kempton Park's owner Mr. Samuel H Hyde, where the first horse race took place on 18th July 1878.
An electric atmosphere is expected as the grandstand will be a focal point for spectators and there will be musical entertainment to motivate the competitors.
Quicksilver Running and RUNFEST EVENTS promise officially measured distances; fully road closed courses; a flat, fast course; ample parking, and rapid chip timing and results.
Last year's Renaissance Half Marathon winners were Matthew Parry (Clapham Chasers, 1:12:00) and Hayley Winters (Gloucester AAC, 1:27:17). The 10K champions were Andrius Jaksevicius (Belgrave Harriers, 32:00) and Joanne Harbinson (unattached, 42:14). At 5K the fastest times were recorded by Ben Rowe (Windsor, 16:54) and Alexa King (Hart RR, 17:38).
Race Director Tom Bedford said: "The event is a collaboration of the teams behind Richmond RUNFEST and Hampton Court Half Marathon who tested a socially-distanced event at the same venue in 2021. It went so well we have decided to improve the event further by taking in the amazing grandstands and significantly reducing the number of laps".
