Numbers Up For Great Eastern Run
Five and a half thousand run in Peterborough's big race day...
Record numbers ran in the 2025 AEPG Great Eastern Run and Anna's Hope 5K Fun Run, sponsored by Asset Earning Power Group, on Sunday, 12 October 2025. The number of half-marathon finishers in Peterborough was 4,706 plus 842 in the 5K for a grand Great Eastern Run total of 5,548!
Danielle (pictured above) was among the runners who displayed the finish line emotion on an overcast day that had made a misty start at the Vivacity Peterborough Lido start and finish, as featured on the 2025 medal (pictured below).
The Great Eastern Run must be one of the fastest-growing events on the calendar. In 2022, the main half-marathon race had 2,284 finishers. Numbers rose to 2,752 in 2023 and 3,170 last year, when the 5K Fun Run added another 731 runners.
The race can trace its history back to the Perkins Great Eastern Run in 1982, won by John Offord and Celia Hargrave, and the best times since its relaunch in 2006 are 1:01:40 by Philip Koech (Kenya) in 2015 and 1:10:43 by GB international Georgina Schweining (Cambridge Runners) last year.
The top three men in the Great Eastern Run this year were Jack White (City of Norwich AC, 1:05:54), Milan Campion (Bristol & West AC, 1:06:05), and Michael Kallenberg (Swansea Harriers, 1:06:13).
Charlie Thornton (Lincoln Wellington AC, 1:15:18) enjoyed a clear victory in the women's race, followed by Imy Briscoe (Clapham Chasers, 1:17:35) and Eloise Bull (Guildford & Godalming AC, 1:18:37).
The Anna's Hope 5K Fun Run 2025 winners were Mateusz Seicinski (16:14) and fifth-placed Isla Porter (Lincoln Wellington AC, 17:25), as 842 finished in less than 58 minutes.
