Bigging Up The Buxton Half
Two weeks to go to the hill lover’s race in the beautiful Peak District
13.1 miles, Axe Edge and stunning views describe the Buxton Half Marathon to a ‘T.' This year's race takes place on Sunday 28 May in a what is delightful part of Derbyshire. This is the race to run if you like climbing because you will do plenty of that!
The Buxton Half Marathon is one of those ‘must do’ races, mainly for the scenery which is worth the pain of the hills. It’s a well organised and marshalled event by Buxton AC which attracts a good field of runners who are keen to test themselves on the tough course.
There will be club vests from Macclesfield Harriers, Goyt Valley Striders and Holmfirth Harriers along with those from neighbouring Staffordshire, Cheshire and counties further afield with runners toeing the line at 10am outside the Opera House as they prepare to scale the heights.
It's uphill from the start for three miles towards Axe Edge and surrounding countryside that will look magnificent on a sunny day....fingers crossed! The ascent is followed by a long descent down country lanes with the chance to turn over the legs whilst admiring Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill. Tackle a few more lumps and bumps before a dash for the finish and cheers from crowds in Pavilion Gardens. There are three water stations along the route and more at the finish.
The prize list includes 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female, first male and female U20 and male and female age category winners amongst others.
There are medals for all finishers who will feel a sense of satisfaction from scaling the heights at a race where the total ascent is 1508ft (460m).
Entries are usually snapped up quickly for the Buxton Half Marathon so if you are thinking of signing up don’t leave it too long. Enter now at the Buxton Half website.
