Buns On The Run

Glasgow Bun Run brings bakery stops to half marathon route...

A new kind of running event is coming to Glasgow this summer, as the Bun Run prepares to take over the city streets on 9 August with a focus firmly on culinary rewards! Organised by Up & Running Events, the event is being billed as a social half marathon with a difference, guiding runners across the city while stopping off at some of Glasgow’s best independent bakeries along the way.

Starting and finishing at Maple Leaf Bakery in Govan, the route will take participants from the west of the city through the centre, out through the east and down to the southside before returning to the finish, where a final bakery treat and time to socialise await.

Organisers are keen to stress that this is not a traditional race, but an experience designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace. They said: “This is not a race and there are no results or prizes. The aim of the day is to run together, experience the route as a group and enjoy the bakery stops along the way.

Runners will be split into paced groups, with each group starting slightly apart to keep the event relaxed and manageable at every stop. Each group will run together, stopping briefly at each location before continuing on the route and returning to the finish, where the final bakery stop will be waiting.”

The route will take in a number of popular local bakeries including Tantrum Doughnuts, Chulos Cookies, Big Bear Bakery, Outlier and Daily, with runners receiving a small baked item at each stop to keep things manageable while on the move.

With places limited to 300 runners, organisers expect strong demand for what promises to be one of the most unique running events this summer.
