Liverpool's Festive Countdown
Countdown begins for what has become one of Liverpool’s most-loved festive traditions...
The countdown is on to one of the most colourful and festive running events in the country, with less than 40 days to go until the streets of Liverpool are filled with red and blue Santas. This year's BTR Liverpool Santa Dash will take place on 7 December, and thousands are already signed up to take part in what promises to be another spectacular day of festive fun.
Organisers told us: "More than 3,500 runners have already secured their places, and we are expecting another sell-out after last year’s event reached its capacity of 8,500 participants which was the biggest turnout in a decade."
The event welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities, including wheelchair participants, families, charities, baby Santas in prams and even dogs dressed for the occasion. Participants can choose between the classic red Santa suit or limited-edition blue suits, with early registration recommended to avoid missing out.
The 5K route starts at Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head, taking runners through the Royal Albert Dock and around the city centre before finishing in front of Liverpool Town Hall. There, participants will be greeted by festive scenes including stilt walkers, snow and plenty of Christmas cheer.
For younger runners, the Mini Dash 1K follows once the main event has finished. Open to children aged 12 and under, it starts on Castle Street and gives youngsters the chance to enjoy their own moment of festive fun.
This year’s medal is described by organisers as a 'cracker', available in red or blue to match suit colour choices. Made from 100% recycled zinc, it features glittering Santas and snowmen and is set to be a standout addition to any medal collection.
