Make History This Summer
Take on the historic streets of Durham for a summertime festival of running...
Durham City Run Festival will return to the historic city this July (15-16) and will once again include the Prince Bishops Durham City 5K and 10K, Run Like a Legend Mile and Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track.
The Prince Bishops Durham City 5K and 10K will take place on the evening of Friday 16 July. Both races are flat and fast, but will still present runners with a challenge while taking in some of the historic city’s most famous sights.
The World Heritage Site provides the stunning backdrop to this exciting event that chases through the narrow cobbled streets and along the beautiful River Wear with the imposing 900 year old Cathedral always beckoning. There can hardly be a more spectacular setting for a summer night of racing and fun. And with a little luck you may have produced your own historical performance to match the surrounding splendour!
Run Like A Legend also returns to the Durham City Run Festival, on Saturday 17 July runners will be able to test themselves against the iconic mile distance, on a flat route that runs along the picturesque and flat riverside.
Paula’s Families on Track will return on the Saturday. The brainchild of athletics legend Paula Radcliffe, Families on Track made its global debut in Durham in 2019 and gives family groups the opportunity to complete a 10K distance in a continuous relay, in a safe setting and format that allows everyone to contribute, no matter what age or ability.
And organisers have just announced that the festival has 'just got even better!' with news that XO races will be introduced to Durham for the very first time. This is an exciting new concept that has been taking northern cities by storm. In teams of two, runners tackle their own running route through a landscape of stunning architecture and cultural landmarks on this urban orienteering experience.
