Running on the beach

New Great British Marathon aims to be a ‘shore’ thing

Life is a beach with two challenges to choose from at this seaside event.

Entries have opened for the Great British Seaside Marathon on Saturday 25 March 2023. Pack your bucket and spade along with your trainers at this coastal running adventure in Skegness with the option to make a weekend of it.

A new event from Curly’s Athletes, the Great British Marathon hopes to deliver a ‘Great British Experience’ for everyone taking part with plenty to see and do. There is a Marathon which is actually 27.3 miles – the extra mile and a bit is a bonus – and an Ultra at 35+ miles.

Both of these races are held on the picturesque Lincolnshire Coastal Path which is a very flat route from Skegness to Mablethorpe and back, on a mixture of paved surfaces, country roads and trails. It avoids most of the sand but there could be some blown onto the course which runners need to be aware of. It is the seaside after all...

Runners can expect a well marked and marshalled route which is easy to follow, so perfect as a first ultra and there are aid stations, music and medical support along the way. It is a safe route; however, the event is in March when the weather is likeky to be changeable and the organisers have a mandatory kit list plus recommended items as part of their duty of care – the details of which are on the event website

There is a generous cut off time of 8.5 hours for the Marathon and 10.5 hours for the Ultra. The entry fee includes a bespoke ‘seaside’ themed medal, long-sleeved technical top, free photos and treats at the finish. Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and the RNLI Skegness are the event’s charity partners and entrants are invited to run for them.

Sun, sea, sand and success wait for those who enjoy running beside the seaside. Book your place at the Great British Seaside Marathon website.
