Adverse conditions forces City of Preston 10K postponement
Race organisers were forced to make a late call to postpone Sunday’s City of Preston 10K. Adverse weather, with parts of the course completely flooded, resulted in organisers making the tough decision to ensure runners’ safety.
The postponement will be a big blow for both runners and organisers Sports Tours International, who had taken over the event last year and enjoyed what was a record turnout in 2018.
A statement from the City of Preston team read: “We have worked through the early hours to displace water which was more than ankle deep, however with the consistent rain we cannot clear the course for the start of the race and for the interest of safety we regret the race will not take place."
Like all of the UK running events under Sports Tours direction, City of Preston 10K supports the Running Bee Foundation, an initiative that returns all race profits to community projects. Organisers were clear that this wouldn’t impact on the charity: “We will ensure that ALL profits, no matter what the costs today, will go back into the local community in Preston.
