Running across the Roman Bridge at the Weston Park 10K

Cool running at Weston Park

This event was fortunate enough to miss Storm Arwen.

Runners wrapped up warmly ahead of Sunday’s (28 November) Weston Park 10K & 5K that took them on a well marshalled tour of the grounds. They got lucky with the weather in the light of the Met Office warning.

The UK was battered by gale-force winds, rain, sleet and snow last weekend but thankfully, conditions were calm at this event organised by Kickass Endurance. Things were just a little chilly - especially to begin with but a good 10K or 5K on a picturesque, multi-terrain course soon warmed everyone up and there was plenty to see along the way.

Weston Park is a Grade I listed, 17th Century country house set amongst over 1,000 acres of parkland with features that include the Obelisk, Roman Bridge, lake and gardens.

All of which made for an enjoyable event, aided by willing and helpful marshals who encouraged the runners on their way around an undulating course. They ran on gravel paths, tarmac, road and small sections of grass whilst taking in the sights and sounds of this historic venue.

Jonathan Tindall of Lawley RC was the winner in the 10K, crossing the line in 34:51. Pravesh Patel of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC finished second in 35:31 and Ben Gibson of Shropshire Shufflers third in 35:40.

Lauren Evans of Sportstest was the female winner in 42:12. Lauren Morley of Shrewsbury AC was second in 44:26 and Shell Grayston of Shropshire Shufflers third in 46:15.

In the 5K, Tyler Hawley of Birchfield Harriers was the winner in 17:36. Lucy Evans the first female in 30:39.

The full set of results from both races can be viewed via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.

The fun starts again in 2022 with the Telford & Wrekin 10K. Visit the Kickass Endurance website for more details and to enter.
