Wilmslow Festive 10K Stars

Wilmslow's Winter Winner

We report from the weekend's Wilmslow Festive 10K...

Storm Arwen may have brought with her an arctic blast that shocked the country into an early winter but over 4000 runners in the north west were undeterred as they kick-started their Christmas festivities at the weekend’s Wilmslow Festive 10K

Starting in the town centre, this one-lap race is perfect for fast times and take runners on a scenic journey through country roads. It’s a well-loved classic that sells out every year and caters to those chasing a year-end PB as well as those who enjoy the festive fancy dress theme.

Speaking after the race, organisers commented: “This has been a fantastic and very successful Wilmslow Festive 10K - congratulations to all our finishers today! What a freezingly festive morning it was.”

The arctic blast, certainly blasted Matthew Clowes from Cardiff Athletics around the course - he took almost a minute off the course record running the distance in a staggering 28:57.  Sophie Wood from Sale Harriers won the women’s race in a fantastic time of 33:34.

It was certainly a successful day all round, with many entrants taking to Facebook to voice their delight in the organisation and atmosphere.

Leanne Heppolette commented: “Absolutely incredible organisation! I can’t even imagine the amount of time it takes to organise such an event but it really was brilliant! Thank you.”

While Gill Malcolm said: “My first RNW event and I absolutely loved it, well organised and great route. Big thank you to all the marshalls.”

Jerry Smith was in agreement: “I completely agree with those comments, brilliant race today, thanks very much to everyone involved.”

With feedback like that, it’s easy to see why it’s a race that sells out every year. If you want to be part of next year’s 10K then you can find out more at the event website
